Things To Do

Here are a few of our favorite things to do in Maui.

Snorkel the beautiful reefs of Maui

Ulua Beach is one of the most popular snorkeling beaches on the south side of Maui, in the Kihei-Wailea-Makena area. However, don’t miss out on our very own Keawakapu Beach here at Ekahi, which also offers excellent snorkeling, especially in the morning.

The coastline here is called turtle highway and is teeming with turtles, giving you a great chance to see Hawaiian sea turtles in their natural habitat.

If you’re interested in a boat excursion for snorkeling, consider a tour of Molokini Crater, Lanai, or Turtle Town. Recommended tour providers include Trilogy and Kai Kanani

Hike the Kapalu Coast Trail

You’ve seen Moana. These mountains must be the inspiration for the Disney favorite. This 2.5-mile out-and-back trail near Lahaina, Maui is well worth packing everyone up for. Generally considered an easy route, it takes about an hour of steady hiking start-to-finish.

Surf Like a Local

Book a family-friendly group surf lesson at Kalama Beach with Maui Waveriders or sign on with the locals at Zach Howard to get away from the crowd.

Watch the Sunrise from the top of Haleakala

Seeing the sunrise from the top of Haleakala Mountain (in Haleakala National Park) is one of Maui’s most coveted experiences. Reservations are required to enter the park for sunrise, and it is cold on top of the mountain (25 – 35 degrees at sunrise). Valley Isle Excursions provides a great tour that includes blankets and breakfast.

Try Whale Watching (Feb–Apr)

Enjoy up-close encounters of the majestic Hawaiian humpback whales on a luxury sailing catamaran. Learn more and book a tour with Trilogy.

Better yet, let the masses line up for a motorized whale watching tour while your family gets up close and personal with the majestic humpback whales while paddling an outrigger canoe right from shore. Learn more and book your tour here.

Maui Ocean Center

The Maui Ocean Center is a world-class aquarium featuring exhibits on Hawaiian marine life that are both educational and fun for kids. A great place to spend a rainy day or fill some time before a late day flight. To learn more, plan a visit, and purchase tickets, check out their website here.

Drive the road to Hana

Immerse yourself in the beauty of Maui by taking a drive to Hana. The road to Hana twists thru rainforests and passes over 50 bridges and 600 turns. You will find waterfalls, incredible coastal sites, beautiful flowers, and wonderful small communities.

Try and get reservations for entry into Wai’anapanapa State Park which features beautiful black sand beaches and a wild volcanic coastline. It’s a great place for a picnic. Other kid friendly stops along the way include Twin Falls, Ho’okipa Beach, and the Garden of Eden Arboretum.

Don’t miss out on Auntie Sandy’s Banana Bread!

Let the spirit of Aloha move you at a luau

Indulge in a traditional Hawaiian luau, complete with fire knife dancing, hula dancing, and a feast of local cuisine that will surely delight both kids and adults alike. While there are loads of options, the Feast at Mokapu will not disappoint – plus, its walking distance from the condo. Click here to learn more and purchase tickets.

Visit the Surfing Goat Dairy

Yep, you heard us right. Take a day-trip to Kula and stop at the Surfing Goat Dairy – kids will love hanging with the goats and even get a try at milking. Bonus, the cheese is amazing at night with your wine during sunset!

Shop local artists in Pa’ia

Pa’ia is a historic town of colorful, rustic storefronts filled with local art galleries, one-of-a-kind shopping boutiques and restaurants. After exploring the shops, treat yourself to a delicious fish burger from the Pa’ia Fish Market. Then, make your way to Ko’okipa Beach, famously known as the “windsurfing capital of the world.”

Golf the courses of Maui

Maui boasts some wonderful golf courses, including a club right next door. At Wailea Golf Club, you’ll find three award-winning courses—Emerald, Blue, and Gold—that offer plenty of sunshine and stunning vistas. Golf clubs are available for rent.

Kid-Friendly Beaches

While you can’t beat the convenience of Keawakapu (it lines the shore of Wailea Ekahi), a day trip to kid-friendly beaches like Baby Beach (in Lahaina), Kamaole (in S. Kihei) or Sugar Beach (in N. Kihei), to build sandcastles, play in the waves, and soak up the sun is a must-do for the adventurous family.

Maui Brewing Company

Visit the Maui Brewing Company for a family-friendly brewery tour and tasting of locally crafted beers & root beers. Visit their website here.
